The Color of Water. Book: By James McBride. "The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother", written by James McBride. This story entails James McBride's upbringing in his family of 12 brothers and sisters (him being #8), and his curiosity and drive to find out where his white mother came from and who she is. He would ask a variety of questions to his mother, trying to understand his life, but received answers that were very vague or sarcastic, and definitely evasive. The more his mother held back, the curiouser he became. “Only available for pickup.”
