Vintage Italian Aphrodite Sculpture by Ruggeri
$40
This beautiful vintage sculpture was crafted in Italy by sculptor G Ruggeri out of resin. Measures 3” wide by 10” tall. Pickup in Shawnessy. From Google: This is a statue known as the Venus Callipyge or Aphrodite Kallipygos, which literally translates to "Venus (or Aphrodite) of the beautiful buttocks". The original statue is believed to be a Greek bronze from around 300 BC. The version in the image is a reproduction of a Roman marble copy from the late 1st century BC, which is currently preserved in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. The sculpture depicts a partially draped woman raising her peplos (garment) to admire her hips and buttocks. The subject is conventionally identified as Venus, the goddess of beauty. Ruggeri, a sculptor who worked for a casting factory in Tuscany, developed a unique means of mixing alabaster with resin, making the sculpture more durable and waterproof while maintaining a classical aesthetic.
