We also came across a lively Saturday Evening Post cover entitled “Catching the Home Run Ball” from April 22, 1950. This discovery has been a useful connection as our 2020 exhibition “Baseball: America’s Home Run” comes together! Interestingly, the title is misleading as the ball player is clearly aiming to catch a pop foul. In his leadership role of the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee, Donahos chose the artworks for over 300 postage stamps over the course of 7 U.S presidents and 9 Postmasters General. In honor of his service, the Postal Service's “Hall of Stamps” in Washington, D.C. was dedicated in his honor in 1984.
