Published in 1993, The Giver is a young adult novel set in a seemingly utopian society that has eliminated pain, conflict, and emotional depth by adopting a policy called "Sameness". The story follows 12-year-old Jonas, who is chosen to become the Receiver of Memory, the person tasked with holding all the memories of the world before Sameness was implemented.
