


"Arch Orr Ewing & Co. Glasgow" Rare Antique 1870s Chromolithographic Pictorial Cotton Bale Advertising Label. Produced for the advertisement and sale of bales of cloth and individual fabric lengths. The Label features an illustration of Miniature painting from Jaipur School. These Textile labels also referred to as "tickets" and "shopper's tickets " were usually printed in Manchester or Glasgow and then shipped to Bombay, Calcutta and Armitsar. These labels served as a great source of information about the location of the mills in Britain and their associated outlets in India. They largely depict the God's and Goddesses of Hinduism, or scenes from the epics such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, etc; with inscription in different languages that would indicate where the cloth was to be sold in India.
