Vintage Locket (Possibly Silver)

I can’t find a maker’s mark on this piece, but my gut is telling me that it’s silver. This is from my husband’s grandmother’s collection and she had a lot of silver and some gold. The chain is missing, but the locket is in great condition despite being tarnished on the outside. A good jewelry bath will have it shining again.
