A single jack means you can only utilize one IP address and therefore only connect one device to your network. This splitter/ combiner, when used as a pair, doubles that number. From your modem or router, you simply connect two Cat5E cables (not included) to its dual jacks. You then just plug the other end of the splitter/ combiner into your single Ethernet wall jack. Both signals are sent together throughout your home network. A second splitter/combiner is then plugged into an Ethernet wall jack in another room. It separates the signals so you can connect two individual devices, such as a computer or gaming system. All you have to do is run two Cat5E cables (not included) from the dual jacks.
