Bohemian Glass Gilt & Ruby Overlay Vase, Czechoslovakia
$165
An elegant Bohemian art glass vase produced in Czechoslovakia, richly decorated with a warm gilt ground over ruby-red glass and detailed with hand-painted floral enamelwork. The form features a baluster body with a softly swelling belly, a narrow cylindrical neck, and a weighted foot, creating a balanced and highly decorative silhouette.
The surface is finished in a luminous gold wash, overlaid on deep ruby glass, a classic Bohemian decorative technique associated with mid-20th-century export glass. The vase is further embellished with raised and painted floral motifs—white blossoms with soft pink shading and green leaves—applied by hand, with fine line detailing visible under magnification.
An original “Bohemia Glass – Made in Czechoslovakia” paper label remains affixed to one example, firmly anchoring origin and period. The use of the Czechoslovakia designation places production prior to 1993, with stylistic and material cues pointing most convincingly to circa 1950s–1970s. The underside shows a polished base with no scratching, consistent with careful use and quality finishing.
This is a decorative art object intended for display rather than utilitarian use, well suited to collectors of Bohemian glass, mid-century European decorative arts, or gilt-overlay glass forms.
