When artist Julian Schnabel redesigned the Gramercy Park Hotel for Hotelier Ian Schrager in 2006, studio Maarten Baas was commissioned to create custom furniture for the property, including 200 examples of the red velvet armchair in this listing. This item is from the "Smoke" collection created by Baas, so named for the preserved charred wood that makes up the frame. This piece is signed by the artist. His work is included in the permanent collection of the MoMA. Included in the sale are the Wingback Chair with matching Ottoman, both in red velvet.
