My main motivation for selling is to declutter. I used to be a make-up artist and I had so much make-up and other junk accumulated which made me realize how much stuff I don’t use that’s just sitting there. Obviously inflation has been tough for everyone, with rising grocery prices along with everything else, it’s so hard to manage expenses. It’s better to give it away and get something back in return for it so I’m able to meet my expenses for the month while making someone else’s day. Why Karrot? I heard about Karrot from my sister and her friend, and one day I decided to check it out. My first reaction was “Oh My God, why was this not in my life before”. I previously used FB Marketplace and Carousell but I deleted it immediately because I didn’t like the interface. Other platforms are too complicated but on Karrot it’s so convenient and user friendly. If I gave it to my grandfather who’s not familiar with technology, I’m sure even he can go through the app easily. I also love the activities that we can participate in every week. The mini games and competitions are always so fun, super interactive and just a joy to participate in. Overall, it feels safer and makes it much easier to make connections within your community. What Makes the Karrot Community Special? It’s a neighbourhood community that’s close-knitted. One time I was in dire need of stationary and didn’t have the time to buy new stationary (pens etc) as I was working long hour shifts. When I went on the app I found someone within my area who was selling some stationary. They lived super close from what I saw on the app map and when I messaged them she was actually living in my building! All I had to do was meet her in the lobby and she even gave it for free! It was such a happy coincidence. Selling Tips Be honest about what you’re selling. If the product description isn’t accurate the person isn’t going to be giving you a good review and that harms you image in the community. Pricing is also important and should be set in accordance to what the condition of the item is - ask yourself if you would buy the product. Ask a friend or family member how much they would pay for it or even search on Karrot to see what other people are selling the item for. Memorable Karrot Experience I was a new immigrant to the country so it was very hard for me to meet people but Karrot gave me the encouragement to go out and interact with others in my community. The interactions with everyone have been super nice with lovely compliments, conversations, and reviews. One woman who I met for a couple of minutes was really sweet and bought a bundle of makeup from me. It must have been only my 1st or 2nd sale, but these small interactions really make your day.
