I saw an advertisement about Karrot during Covid when I was playing a game on my phone. I had never used any app for buying and selling before, but I decided to give it a try since I had some masks and kids' clothing to sell.. It felt like a really great community. It made me so happy when I started successfully making sales. And here I am, still using Karrot after two years! Q: Motivation for choosing to buy and sell secondhand? My primary motivation for participating in the secondhand economy is to support a more environmentally friendly and sustainable lifestyle. I'm always mindful of the environmental impact of my purchases. For instance, I recently bought a clothing rack to dry my clothes in the sun instead of using a dryer. Selling things that still have life but are no longer useful to me feels like a win-win situation. I always consider the environment and feel it's a waste to throw things out when someone else might want them. I'm more than happy to sell or give them away. Q: Tips for buying & selling? 1. Use better communication styles, such as personal messages, instead of the default "Is this still available?" message. Making it personal creates a more human interaction. 2. Try to give away free stuff when you can. I started by giving away items for free and gradually began making real sales. Q: Most memorable buying or selling experience? One time, I had to wait 45 minutes for a buyer, which was frustrating at first. When they finally arrived, they explained they were new to Canada and had gotten lost. This was completely understandable, and we ended up talking for a while. I gave them advice about adjusting to their new Canadian lifestyle. A few months later, they texted me again, this time to buy a new comforter I was selling. They shared all the amazing news about their life, like moving to a new place, expecting a baby, and getting a new job offer. I wished them well and felt so happy to hear they were doing great. I'm not just on Karrot to sell stuff but to create sincere relationships with new people. These experiences bring me immense joy! Q: What do you think makes the Karrot community special? I often meet people repeatedly, which is fun because we become friends afterward. Everyone I've met has been really nice. I've never bothered trying other platforms because I've always been very satisfied with Karrot. The app cares a lot about its community and has excellent policies related to suspensions and proactive approaches toward scammers. Q: What’s your favourite event to participate in? I truly enjoy all the events. How can I pick just one? But I think Bingo stands out to me because it gives me various options and I can choose what I want to post.
