THREE JAMAICA ONE PENNY COINS QUEEN ELIZABETH II 1960 1961 1964 Three Jamaican one penny coins from the last days of British rule - 1960, 1961, 1964 Jamaica gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1962, and 1969 was the first year that Jamaica issued its own sovereign coinage. Prior to 1969, Jamaica used UK Sterling coinage: pennies, sixpence, schillings, and half crowns. The obverse features a young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
