Vintage Butterfly Wing Necklace Hand Painted Glass Morpho blue

This beautiful little pendant is reverse hand painted. The painting is created on the underside of glass and then mounted over a small iridescent piece of the wing of a Morpho Butterfly. The design is on both sides of the pendant so no matter how it falls you see the design. This Morpho is a large butterfly from South America which has a very short lifespan and is not killed for the various art-forms the wings are used for. Rather they are harvested after the animals natural life cycle has ended in reserves and on butterfly farms. The morpho butterfly is considered good luck. The charming butterfly shaped jewelry box comes which the pendant as does the chain - which is 16" long with a roll-over closure. Neither the surround not the chain are sterling. This is estimated to be from the 70s. Thank you for looking at this item.
