It was intended as part of a new style from IKEA called ‘Young Swede’, which would have a young, rebellious, colourful expression with roots in the youthful 1970s profile at IKEA. SMOG was also a playful new interpretation of older lamps designed by Uno Dahlén in the 1960s and ’70s. The sale start of SMOG was in 1993 and it stayed in the IKEA catalogue until 1997.
