Art & Collectibles ·

$80

Original vintage hand colored etching print from 1809 Old Prices Seven Shilling Pieces Shows two fashionable women - possibly courtesans / prostitutes Original and not reproduction Colors are still good and not faded 13 x 17 inches in frame No glass but is matted Georgian period regency Bridgerton era 80.00 Elmsdale Roqd M4j 3m3 Donlands O'Connor East York M4J 3m3 A hand coloured Georgian satire on the cost of female companionship at the Covent Garden Opera. Two courtesans fashionably dressed in the style of the period are shown arm-in-arm, walking along a pavement. One (right) holds up an open sunshade and a card inscribed 'Miss Oldprice Covent Garden'. In 1809 the price of a box at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden was raised from six to seven shillings prompting this satiric comment on the subsequebr inflationary influence that might have on the price of female companionship in that infamous quarter.
