Exceptional Collector Opportunity
Available for bidding is a classic mid-century hand-carved wooden souvenir totem pole. This striking 12.5-inch tabletop piece beautifully showcases the traditional design styles of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Hand-carved from a single piece of exceptionally lightweight, aged softwood (likely cedar or balsam fir), the pole features a naturally oxidized warm wood patina and sits firmly on a dark, rustic-stained flat wooden display base.
The front of the pole is beautifully preserved, featuring four distinct figures rendered in a traditional matte palette of forest green, deep black, and vibrant red:
Thunderbird: Crowned at the top with prominent vertical crest ears and a sharply hooked black beak detailed with white accents.
Humanoid Chief / Ancestor: Carved centrally with distinct green and red chest motifs.
Bear: Featured with a blocky snout, bared teeth, and an open red mouth.
Beaver: Positioned at the base, holding a traditional form between its dark painted paws. The reverse features a completely blank, flat-backed construction with a single-fastener wing attachment—a technical signature highly characteristic of authentic mid-20th-century commercial souvenir carvings from British Columbia and Alaska.
Condition Report
Overall: Excellent vintage condition with a beautiful, authentic aged character.
Structure: Solid and intact. The wings remain securely attached and the wood is stable.
Surface: Original matte paint is highly intact with minor, expected vintage wear and natural wood grain texturing. No chips or breaks.
