Zeiram Cult Classic (horror-sci-fi)

Zeiram is a Japanese sci-fi horror franchise created by Keita Amemiya. It began with the 1991 live-action film Zeiram, followed by Zeiram 2 (1994) and an anime OVA series, Zeiram: The Animation (1994). Premise: Iria, a female bounty hunter, and her two incompetent assistants pursue Zeiram, a near-indestructible alien creature, after it escapes onto Earth. Zeiram is a mask-faced, tentacled, regenerating killer with teleportation and energy-based attacks. Style: Low-budget practical effects, with creature and armor designs by Amemiya, who also designed for Kamen Rider and later directed Mechanical Violator Hakaider. The tone mixes action, dark humor, and body horror. Reception: Cult classic. Iria's design and Amemiya's visuals are the most praised elements.
