Antique 1820s-1850s painted rocking chair

Antique wooden rocking chair from the first half of the 19th century, with its original stencil painted decoration still visible. Many chairs like this one were manufactured in the northeastern United States in the early 19th century, their iconic painted decoration providing a way to liven up a simple piece of furniture. Paint is somewhat faded and worn, chair needs a little TLC, but this would make a great showpiece or restoration project. This chair is showing its age and at this point would be ideal as a decor piece, or for light items like clothing in a bedroom. Although I would not recommend this chair for heavy regular use, I have seen it occasionally hold up some rather tall people without incident. A sweet little piece of history!
