1940s Occupied Japan Demitasse Cup & Saucer Gold Moriage - Pink
$43
Rare 3-Tone Vintage Japanese Moriage Demitasse Set (c. 1940s)
Description: A stunning collector's "Cabinet Cup" from the Occupied Japan era. This demitasse set is a masterclass in mid-century Japanese export porcelain, featuring three distinct finishes that create a beautiful contrast.
The Cup: The exterior is encrusted in a heavy, matte-finish gold gilt decorated with intricate White Moriage (hand-applied raised beading) in a floral vine pattern. The interior surprises with a high-gloss Mint Green glaze.
The Saucer: Finished in a high-sheen Iridescent Pink Lusterware with an embossed "Scalloped Leaf" texture that radiates from the center.
Dimensions: Cup is approx. 2" tall, diameter at top opening 2 1/8" approx.
Saucer is approx. 4.5" wide.
Historical Note: Produced in Nagoya, Japan, during the post-war reconstruction period (1945–1952).
Condition Report
Structural: Good vintage condition light wear. The porcelain rings true when tapped.
Cosmetic: The gold gilding on the cup is roughly 90% intact, which is rare for this "cold-painted" style. Very minor thinning on the apex of the handle.
Markings: The base of the saucer shows a ghosting of a red stamp that has faded over time, consistent with authentic Occupied Japan era "overglaze" marking techniques. Please reference photos as they are part of the description of the item.
