A few brave souls risk everything to return to the world they left long ages ago. Their careful plans are thwarted when fate or someone’s evil intentions cause them to arrive in Manitoba rather than Ireland. The fairies face up to their problems and, while their lives don’t go exactly uphill again, they don’t go downhill either. The curious tale in this book is only one of many that could be told. It is full of indomitable courage and nonstop action interspersed with moments of quiet peace, gentle humor, and a few bad puns. The characters spend time in Winnipeg, near a gold mine in eastern Manitoba, and on the shores of Lake Winnipeg, a truly great freshwater sea. Just before the explosive” ending the twelve-year-old hero, James, finds himself, thanks to fairy magic, as part of a small group of lifelong friends.
