There are numerous parks to visit this fall to make the most of Canada's best season, and each of them has its optimal shade for peak viewing. Algonquin Provincial Park From the vast interior of maple hills, to its rocky ridges and thousands of lakes, Algonquin is known for its 7,635 square kilometres of forests, bogs, lakes and rivers. ๐ Location: Ontario 60, ON K0J 2M0 ๐ Best Viewing: The Highway 60 Corridor is just at the beginning stages of its transition from summer to fall. The best pops of Autumn colour are seen near the West Gate on Highway 60. 2. Balsam Lake Provincial Park Located approximately 2 hours from Toronto, Balsam Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in the Kawartha Lakes area, which makes for great swimming in the Summer and beautiful fall leaves in the Autumn. ๐ Location: 2238 Kawartha Lakes County Rd 48, Kirkfield, ON K0M 2B0 ๐ Best Viewing: This park is still showing a lot of green, but in the next coming weeks we will start to see some change! The optimal spot to see colour changes would be on the hiking trails throughout the park. 3. Charleston Lake Provincial Park This beautiful park located on Charleston Lake features a rocky lake, forest landscapes and is full of great opportunities for hiking and fishing. ๐ Location: 148 Woodvale Road, Lansdowne, ON K0E 1L0 ๐ Best Viewing: There are some colours already starting to appear on the trees. The Quiddity Trail is great for seeing fall colours. 4. Fitzroy Provincial Park Designated as recreational-class by Ontario Parks, Fitzroy Park is located on the Ottawa River and is home to century-old trees. Great for family camping and relaxing by the beach. ๐ Location: 5201 Canon Smith Dr, Fitzroy Harbour, ON K0A 1X0 ๐ Best Viewing: The best locations for viewing fall colours will be on the Carp and Terraces Trails as well as the Group Picnic lookout. 5. Frontenac Provincial Park A 5,350-hectare park provincial park located north of Kingston, Ontario is classified as a natural environment park and is open year-round for four season recreation. ๐ Location: 6700 Salmon Lake Rd, Sydenham, ON K0H 2T0 ๐ Best Viewing: You can just start to see the yellow and red leaves starting to appear in the park. Hike the Doe Lake Trail (3km) for a quick hike or venture onto one of the longer trails. 6. Killarney Provincial Park This iconic 645 square kilometre provincial park is on Georgian Bay and encompasses a vast wilderness area of forests, and mountains. Making it perfect for walking trails and camping. ๐ Location: 960 ON-637, Killarney, ON P0M 2A0 ๐ Best Viewing: We are just starting to see the colours change on the leaves at the park. The view from the top of Granite Ridge trail is a great place to enjoy the colours and the spectacular view! 7. Silent Lake Provincial Park Over 19 kilometres of hiking trails and 17 kilometres of mountain biking trails, Silent Lake is made for recreational activities like swimming, hiking, cycling, kayaking, and canoeing. ๐ Location: 1589 Silent Lake Park Road, Bancroft, ON K0L 1C0 ๐ Best Viewing: Early signs of fall are here! Some maple trees have began to turn colour. Best viewing areas for fall leaves would be at the day-use beach area or along the Lakeshore Loop or Bonnies Pond Hiking trails.
