This striking 1985 pressed paper sculptural relief, *Beginnings*, by American artist Jean Juhlin, showcases her mastery of texture and form. Numbered 16/175, it is signed, titled, and dated in pencil along the lower margin. The piece remains in very good condition with Lucite box frame being in excellent condition (commonly heavily scratched!)

Jean Juhlin, born in 1931, is an American artist known for her abstract sculptures inspired by Native American figures. She began her artistic journey at the age of 10, taking sculpture classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she developed a passion for working with clay. Originally focusing on commissioned bronze portraits, Juhlin transitioned to creating abstract Native American figures after being inspired by a book on Native cultures she discovered during an illness. Her work has been exhibited in galleries such as the Ray Tracey Gallery in Santa Fe, El Prado Gallery in Sedona, Miller Gallery in Cincinnati, and Other Side Gallery in Pier, Michigan.
