Mid-Century Hand-Blown Czech Art Glass

This is a beautifully hand-blown Czech/Bohemian art glass swan, produced between the 1960s and 1990s during the height of Central European decorative glassmaking. Made in the Murano style but crafted in the Czech Republic, this piece showcases the region’s renowned skill in cased glass and sculptural forms. The swan features a soft, opaque-to-translucent cased pink body with clear glass accents along the wings and neck—an aesthetic strongly associated with the Bohemian glass studios of Železný Brod (Zelezny Brod Glass) and Borské Sklo. These workshops were well known for producing elegant, sculptural animals with expressive lines, heavy weight, and excellent clarity. The piece is solid and weighty, shaped entirely by hand. The raw pontil mark on the underside confirms traditional hot-working techniques; Czech studios often left the base unpolished, distinguishing their work from Italian Murano pieces, which typically feature ground and fire-polished bases.
