The Abingdon Sanitary Manufacturing Company, founded in 1908, in Illinois, was the first company to produce coloured plumbing fixtures in 1928. During the Great Depression, the company pivoted to art ware, creating The Abingdon Pottery Company. (1934-50), using the same materials as they did for their bathroom supplies.
