RARE HUDSON’S BAY ELEVATOR INDICATOR COVER
$165
Serious collectors, here’s a chance to own a genuine architectural artifact from the former Hudson’s Bay Company store in downtown Hamilton, one of the city’s most iconic retail buildings for nearly a century. This vintage elevator indicator light cover once sat above the elevator doors, displaying the classic red “up” and green “down” arrows. Items like this rarely surface, especially with confirmed provenance from a major Canadian department store.
A small piece of glass is missing at the bottom of the cover, beneath the red down arrow. Does not affect function and could be a quick replacement with either plexi or frosted glass.
Key Features:
• Authentic mid-century elevator indicator cover
• Salvaged from the historic Hudson’s Bay Hamilton location
• Marked “2981 SP-1” on the metal frame
• Heavy cast metal construction with original patina
• Curved red/green translucent lenses with white arrows
• Excellent candidate for restoration or display
• A true piece of Canadian retail & architectural history
Collector Appeal:
Elevator indicators, in particular, are prized because they were rarely removed intact and even more rarely made available to the public.
Display Ideas:
• Backlight and mount as wall art
• Add to a curated industrial collection
• Use as a historical centerpiece in a loft, bar, office, or studio
• Incorporate into retail heritage displays
