Available for sale is a beautiful pair of authentic 19th-century Chinese Pith Paper (Rice Paper) paintings. These delicate works were created in the Canton region for the export market and are known for their vibrant colors and translucent texture.
Subject Matter:
Painting 1: A figure carrying a traditional fire/lantern basket on a pole.
Painting 2: A figure carrying a large, stylized fish lantern (likely representing a festival or celebration).
Condition & Details:
The Art: The colors remain remarkably bright. As is common with pith paper of this age, there are some minor chips/breaks in the paper (please see photos for detail), which is a hallmark of genuine antique pith.
The Frames: These are housed in stunning, vintage hand-carved wooden frames featuring intricate floral and foliate motifs. The frames are sturdy and provide a wonderful "Old World" aesthetic.
