RARE Vintage Korean Bandaji Chests/nightstand - Hand-Painted

Free delivery within 50kms of Burnaby BC. Can deliver past that for fee. Two identical vintage Korean Bandaji (blanket chests). Finding a single chest in this condition is a find, but finding a perfectly matched "true pair" is a rare opportunity for collectors and interior designers alike. These chests were handcrafted in South Korea during the mid-to-late 20th century, modeled after the traditional furniture of the Joseon Dynasty. Known as Bandaji (front-drop chests), this style was historically used to store fine linens and clothing. Estimated ETA is 1970-80s. Each cabinet features a deep black lacquer finish, serving as a canvas for hand-painted "Hwajodo" (Flower and Bird) motifs. Peonies: Known as the "King of Flowers," representing wealth, honor, and nobility. Birds: Symbolizing joy, fidelity, and a happy home. Butterfly Hardware: The ornate brass butterfly hinges and plates are traditional Korean symbols of free spirit, happiness, and longevity. Excellent Vintage Condition: The lacquer remains vibrant and glossy, and the hand-painted details are crisp and intact. Solid Brass Hardware: All "Jangseok" (brass work) is present, including the iconic circular lock plates and butterfly pulls. Clean Interiors: The drawers and main compartments are exceptionally clean and lined, making them perfect for modern storage. Because these are a matching set, they are ideal for use as statement nightstands, entryway accents, or flanking a fireplace. Their "Chinoiserie" aesthetic fits perfectly into Hollywood Regency, Maximalist, or Modern Eclectic home styles. Hardware (Jangseok): The brass work is complete and features etched floral patterns. The circular lock plate in the center is a hallmark of the Bandaji style. The front-drop door (half-opening) is the defining feature of a Bandaji (literally meaning "half-closer"). The clean red lining and machine-cut drawer joints confirm these are high-quality mid-to-late 20th-century pieces. Dimensions: [21.5]wide x [12.25 inches]deep x [23.5 inches] height Price: $1,300 for the pair Location: Burnaby BC near Gilmore station Serious inquiries only.
