Victorian Scottish Highland Military Tunic
$700
Authentic Victorian-era Scottish Highland military tunic, dating to approximately 1860–1875, associated with Scottish Highland Volunteer or Militia units. This is an original 19th-century garment, not a reproduction. It features scarlet red wool construction with a heavy period canvas/linen lining, a short coatee-style cut with split skirt tails, black cuffs with original brass buttons, and decorative skirt panels with original piping. The original brass buttons are stamped “HIGHLANDERS” with a thistle emblem. There's a handwritten period marking inside, likely an original issue or tailor notation. Buttons marked simply “Highlanders” were commonly used by Scottish Volunteer and Militia Highland units. This uniform was worn during the Victorian Volunteer Movement. It is in good antique condition consistent with age and service, with honest wear, fading, and staining present. No modern repairs are observed, and all buttons appear original. The fabric remains structurally sound for display. Please review all photos carefully, as they form part of the description. This listing is for the tunic only; no trousers, belt, or accessories are included. Ideal for collectors, museums, reenactors, or historical display.
