She's wearing a traditional festive hanbok (Korean dress) and pounding rice in a traditional mortar & pestle (jeolgu & gongi) to make rice cakes for the New Year's soup (tteokguk). I think the figurine is made of resin and doesn't seem too fragile, so it's not too precious to be handled by children.
