Handmade Motanka, One of a Kind Cultured Art

Motanka is a traditional Ukrainian protective doll, created without facial features and formed through wrapping, tying, and stitching. It is a symbol of protection, continuity, and connection to family and heritage. As a Ukrainian maker, I create each Motanka with care and focus, respecting its traditional role as a protective symbol and forming it in a calm state with thoughts of health, protection, and well-being for its future home. This makes each piece both handcrafted and deeply personal. These one-of-a-kind pieces are approximately 25-32 cm tall and take over 12 hours to create using natural materials such as linen, cotton thread, natural fibers, ribbons, lace, beads, and ultra-soft wool yarn.
