The Retailer History
• Who they were: Founded by Bernhard Nathan and Frederick W. Dohrmann, the firm evolved into Nathan, Dohrmann & Company in 1887.
• The Operation: Bernhard Nathan spent most of his time traveling throughout Europe—especially Germany—scouting and partnering with elite porcelain manufacturers.
• The Custom Mark: They frequently commissioned high-end European factories to manufacture fine dinnerware exclusively for their upscale store located near Union Square in San Francisco.
When a piece bears both the "Made in Germany" factory stamp and the "Nathan-Dohrmann" retail mark, it means you have an exclusive import piece commissioned for the California luxury market between the late 19th century and the mid-20th century.
It's a decorative porcelain plate from Nathan Dohrmann & Co. made in Germany. The design features gold scrollwork accents on a navy blue rim with a white centre. It's approximately 8 3/4"inches in diameter.
