Antique Chippendale Secretary Bookcase – Circa 1924
$550
Antique Chippendale Revival Mahogany Secretary Bookcase – Circa 1924
Beautiful and substantial Chippendale Revival mahogany secretary bookcase, dating to circa 1924. A particularly handsome example with richly figured mahogany, traditional ball-and-claw feet and an elaborately carved upper frieze.
The upper bookcase features two leaded-glass doors with diamond latticework, adjustable wooden shelving and brass hardware. Below is a slant-front writing desk that opens to reveal an impressive fitted interior with multiple small drawers, pigeonholes and compartments, together with a large writing surface.
The lower section provides additional storage with two smaller drawers over two full-width drawers, all retaining traditional brass hardware.
A handwritten inscription/marking on the piece appears to include the date 1924, consistent with the construction and period of the secretary.
The piece retains an attractive aged finish with the patina, surface marks and wear expected of an approximately 100-year-old piece. Please refer to photographs for condition.
