Description:
Up for sale is a rare, mid-century porcelain collector's tray by the legendary Italian designer Piero Fornasetti.
This exquisite trompe-l’œil (fool-the-eye) piece replicates the authentic opening-night playbill from Teatro alla Scala in Milan for the historic world premiere of "FALSTAFF" by Giuseppe Verdi on February 9, 1893. The left margin features a gorgeous, intricate musical instrument and florals as vignette.
Crafted with Fornasetti’s signature dimensional "folded/crumpled paper" edge effect, the reverse side includes a typed historical overview of the opera's debut season alongside the classic Fornasetti Milano hand-and-paintbrush maker’s mark (Numbered 12).
Features:
* Captivating, ultra-crisp black transfer-print typography and graphics.
* Iconic mid-century Italian surrealist design.
* Includes two factory-drilled mounting holes on the back corners, making it perfect for an upscale wall gallery or use as a premium dresser trinket dish.
Condition Report:
The central graphic and typography are in excellent, bold condition with zero fading. The ceramic body is completely free of chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. Please note there is vintage wear and rubbing to the gold leaf trim along the wavy borders (see detailed photos).
