Antique 1902 Arts & Crafts Hammered Copper Candlestick
$300 or trade
An authentic, early 20th-century British Arts & Crafts hand-hammered copper push-up candlestick manufactured by Jesson, Birkett & Co. (formerly Faulkner Bronze Company) in Birmingham, England.
This rare piece features beautiful, heavily planished (hammered) details on both the wide circular flared base and the sweeping thumb-guard handle. The central pillar features a distinctive riveted vertical seam and houses a functional side-lever mechanical thumb-ejector mechanism designed to lift the candle as it burns down.
The underside of the base is stamped with the manufacturer’s stylized trademark monogram and the official British design registration marks: "REGD T.M. No 392827", which dates the design's patent origin to 1902.
