This is a unique gurgling fish jug, a novelty ceramic pitcher designed to make a gurgling sound when liquid is poured from it. These jugs are also known as gluggle jugs or gurgle pitchers. The design dates back to the 1800s, with the earliest known examples attributed to Thomas Forester & Sons in Staffordshire, England. They became popular souvenirs and decorative items, and they continue to be produced today. They are made by a number of potteries, often in majolica or earthenware. The gurgling sound is created by air being forced through the fish's tail as liquid is poured. The origin of this jug is Staffordshire, England.
