Full Item Description
Up for public auction is Lot 44: A magnificent, exceptionally well-preserved example of Mid-Century Modern Canadian art pottery. This full-sized ceramic teapot was produced by the historic Céramique de Beauce workshop in Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, Quebec.
This piece showcases the company's famous and highly collectible "Rustique" glaze technique. The body features a rich, multi-tonal underglaze of earthy caramel and sienna browns, heavily layered with a thick, foaming cream-and-tan drip overlay that mimics the aesthetic of European "fat lava" pottery of the same era. Because these glazes reacted uniquely in the kiln, no two pieces from this line are exactly identical.
The teapot features a robust, ergonomic handle, a beautifully formed sweeping pour spout, and its hard-to-find original matching lid complete with a detailed teardrop finial knob
