Vintage Hand Carved Mexican Folk Art Cabinet
$220
Stunning hand-carved, hand-painted folk-art hanging cabinet in the Mexican Aztec/Maya style. Two spindled "gallery" doors open on a carved peg latch to a two-shelf interior, with a drawer below. Every surface is carved in relief and painted with stepped pyramids, birds, fretwork, and star motifs over a distressed indigo-blue ground with red, green, and yellow. The carving detail is gorgeous and the piece is completely one of a kind. No maker's mark; believed early-to-mid 20th century, sold as a vintage decorative piece. Hangs on a wall or sits on a shelf or chest. Deep, confident carving — clearly a maker's piece. No maker's mark is present; based on construction and patina it is believed to be early-to-mid 20th century, but as it is unmarked it is offered conservatively as a vintage decorative folk-art piece. Compact and wall-friendly. A standout accent for Southwestern, boho, Santa Fe, or eclectic interiors. Measures 27.5ʺH × 19.5ʺW × 9.5ʺD.
