For your consideration is a wonderful vintage Art Deco-era "Mr. Pecksniff" Toby Character Jug manufactured by Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh Ltd.) in Burslem, England. Mr. Pecksniff is a fictional character in Charles Dickens' 1843 novel, "The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit". Based on the distinct factory backstamp on the base (featuring the classic beehive mark flanked by decorative floral detailing), this vintage original piece can be reliably dated to the 1930s. High glossy glazed finish. Condition: Excellent vintage condition! This piece has been incredibly well-preserved. There are NO chips, NO cracks, and NO restorations. The rim, handle, and base contours are completely structurally intact with beautiful bright colors. As is common and expected for 90-year-old English ironstone pottery, there is some very minor, light under-glaze crazing upon close inspection, which adds to its authentic antique character.
