Antique Victorian Rosewood Tea Caddy c.1840 - Mother of Pearl
$150
Beautiful genuine mid-19th-century Victorian tea caddy/stationary box, dating to around 1840–1850. Crafted from richly figured dark rosewood.Features:Stunning, highly detailed mother-of-pearl floral marquetry and vine borders along the top lid (nearly 100% complete).Original turned rosewood "bun" feet and matching carved drop-ring handles on the sides.Gorgeous internal lid panel with thin brass framing.Interior has a removable wooden tray insert. Perfect for use as a unique jewelry chest, desk organizer, letter box, or keepsake container. Lovely antique character. The top and sides look fantastic. Both the lower lock and the upper lid prongs (links) are completely intact and original, which is rare for a box this age. Lock is currently missing the key but mechanism is intact. As expected for a 170+ year old piece, there is natural age-related veneer wear/chipping along the bottom base edges and a tight hairline shrinkage crack on the bottom board (does not affect stability or look when sitting up).
