Meet Christine! 🏡 Neighbourhood: Arbutus Ridge, Vancouver 🚀 Karrot Status: Expert Karroter 💗 Describe Karrot in 1 word: FUN 🥕 Christine's profile: karrot://hash_users/NYpL4oegDgk0Om9X Q: First impression of Karrot? I discovered Karrot through a friend while "right-sizing" my belongings. I found it to be a cool app that’s self-contained, making it easier to organize everything for sale in one place. Receiving a reward just after signing up was a pleasant surprise. The events and contests made posting fun and winning some prizes was awesome too! Q: Motivation for choosing to buy and sell secondhand? My primary motivation for choosing secondhand is the sustainability aspect as it’s a great way to keep items away from the landfill (and someone new can enjoy my former treasures). Moreover, when I'm giving away some items, I experience a lot of gratitude from my connections and that feels especially nice. I’ve been mostly selling smaller household items recently like decor, books, electronics, office supplies and clothes. It’s been stuff that has accumulated from living in larger spaces and I just don’t need them anymore. Q: Tips for buying or selling? 1. Start by giving away some of your items during Karrot's monthly Freecycle event (if you can). This helps build your reputation and earns you extra points on your profile, it’s a start to establishing yourself as a solid Karroter. 2. Make sure to leave written reviews after every sale or purchase - it’s a nice way to spread positivity, if that’s what you’ve experienced (honesty is best). I always ask the buyer if it’s possible for them to leave a review at the end of the transaction. I find most people will remember if you’ve asked nicely. Q: Most memorable buying or selling experiences? One of my most memorable experiences was when I was giving away a few items to a wonderful person who, as I learned, was helping a family in need who had just fled from a difficult situation and had nothing (so kind of them to help!). I ended up giving as many extra things as I could find. So grateful to have had this opportunity to contribute! This connection has turned into meeting a lovely new friend! Q: What makes the Karrot community special? The Karrot community stands out because it fosters connections within my neighbourhood. and my amazing city. I also love how I can narrow down the search area and see what's close to me, it makes it convenient for quick pick-ups. Q: What’s your favourite event to participate in? One of my favourite events was the most recent “Karrot Cup”. It was the perfect event that encouraged me to post more items (that I had ready for sale) and also support my city with my fellow neighbours in a fun game. I also love the Freecycle event because you get to giveaway items to support so many awesome people and learn about their various backgrounds. I love that Karrot turns a typically boring and uninteresting task into fun by adding games, contests, and giving you rewards — it has become a fantastic tool for my “right-sizing” journey.
