Heavy Blue & Clear Studio Art Glass Vase, c.1960s–1980s

A refined mid-20th century cased glass sculpture, formed in clear crystal with a deeply saturated cobalt-blue core and a pronounced, optically heavy base. The composition is sculptural and assured, defined by fluid, free-form rim articulations that read as intentional gestures rather than functional openings. The blue is fully encased within thick, high-clarity glass, rising from a substantial transparent foot that creates exceptional internal depth and refraction. The lower section is deliberately weighted, with the color beginning well above the base—an approach associated with serious studio practice and advanced hot-working control. Subtle concentric working rings and internal lensing visible to the underside confirm hand-formed production rather than mold-made or pressed glass. Unsigned, as is common in studio glass of this period where emphasis was placed on form, mass, and material rather than branding. The sculptural language aligns with Central European studio traditions and Scandinavian modernist restraint, and is presented conservatively without named attribution. Intended as a display sculpture for pedestal, console, or gallery placement. Unsigned, as expected for much mid-to-late 20th (1960 - 1980) century studio output where form and material took precedence over branding. ⸻ Dimensions & Weight • Height: 8 1/4 inches • Width (maximum): 6 inches • Base: approx. 3 1/2 × 3 inches • Weight: 3.362 pounds ⸻ Condition Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. One minor surface scratch to the underside of the base only, consistent with shelf contact and not visible when displayed. The glass body is clean, clear, and exceptionally well preserved. ⸻ What it is (and what it’s not) This is a hand-formed studio glass sculpture, not a functional vessel. It is not pressed glass, not cut crystal, and not mass-produced decorative glass. Attribution is made conservatively based on construction, weight, and sculptural handling. ⸻ Attribution & Value Disclosure Unsigned studio glass from this period is common. Any stylistic or regional references are offered as informed context rather than definitive attribution. ⸻ studio glass glass sculpture cased glass blue art glass mid century glass modernist glass scandinavian modern glass murano style glass central european glass gallery glass statement sculpture optical glass collector glass architectural glass display sculpture contemporary studio glass design collector piece interior sculpture museum quality glass abstract glass form
