This is artwork done by my late mother who painted until the very end! F CANCER! Materials: Acrylic on canvas. People wonder about this unique surface texture. The technique in these acrylic works involves first painting the image. Then a transparent gel texture is sculpted over the painting. The gel has the same formulation as acrylic paint without the color pigment. It appears white as it comes out of the jar, and a wide palette knife is used to spread an even coating over the painting. Then the tip of a small palette knife is used for the patterning, which is done by hand, one dab at a time. When the gel dries, it becomes transparent. This transparent gel saturates the colours in the paintings, it disrupts viewer expectations, unifies the picture plane in a new way, and captures light reflections. For those interested in the cleanability of this technique, rest assured that you may dust it or even wash it the same way that you might wash any other acrylic painting.
