Ontario Rock Specimen Black White Banded Gneiss Stone Glacial
$10
$10
Unusual natural black, white and grey banded rock specimen from an old Ontario rock collection.
My father-in-law collected interesting rocks and geological specimens throughout Ontario over many years. The exact location where this particular stone was found is unknown.
Possibly granitic gneiss, with contrasting light-coloured quartz and feldspar-rich areas and darker mineral markings.
Interesting natural shape:
• One side is smoothly rounded, almost like a glacial cobble
• Opposite side is broad and relatively flat
• Distinctive black, white and grey mineral patterns
• Approximately 6–7 inches across and 4–5 inches thick
• Natural cracks and a split/fractured section, clearly shown in photos
Possibly a glacially transported Ontario stone, although the exact geological identification is unconfirmed.
An interesting piece for a rock or mineral collector, geology enthusiast, natural history display, rock garden, landscaping or decorative natural stone arrangement.
Weathered condition with visible cracking. Sold as pictured.
