Vt Landscape Watercol Ptg “Lake of Bays” W.E. Carswell 🐞

Vintage landscape watercolour painting titled “Lake of Bays” by the Canadian artist (W.E.) William E. Carswell. Signed and dated in pencil by the artist. Circa 1954. William E. Carswell (1897-1980) was born in Uxbridge, Ontario. After serving with distinction in WWI, Carswell enrolled in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto, and graduated with a degree in Architecture in 1924. Carswell did become a full Professor of Architecture. 1958-1966, Carswell was a colour specialist, active in watercolour painting and creating stain glass, and in 1959 he designed the stained glass window for the West Hall University College, University of Toronto. He retired from the university in 1966 and continued to devote much time to painting and mentoring young artists. Carswell was best known for his expertise in colour theory, his vibrant Ontario landscapes and architectural scenes. This artwork features a scene with autumn trees. Colours remain brilliant. Very good condition. Professionally framed and matted by Simpson’s. Any wear commensurates with the age. Art is approximately 6.2” wide and 4.8” long. Frame is approximately 9.2” wide and 8.1” long.
