Vintage Ed Drahanchuk Goopher Stoneware Figurine Signed 60s–70s
$95
Charming vintage Ed Drahanchuk stoneware Goopher — a wonderfully whimsical sculptural creature by renowned Canadian ceramic artist Ed Drahanchuk (b. 1938).
Born in Calgary and trained at the Alberta College of Art, Drahanchuk became one of Canada's leading studio potters. His distinctive organic stoneware work became especially recognized during the 1960s–70s. His animal creations include documented pieces known as “Goo-Bull” and “Goo-pher.” He and fellow artist Ethel Drahanchuk later relocated their studio to Quadra Island, BC. His distinctive stoneware works are represented in Canadian public collections.
This hand-crafted piece has a warm earthy brown/orange stoneware surface, expressive protruding eyes, tiny feet and wonderful raised organic decoration across the back. Impressed Drahanchuk artist chop to underside.
Approx. 5" long. Can be displayed standing on its feet or resting/leaning on its rounded body.
Very good vintage condition overall with one small nick to the upper lip. Please review all photos carefully as photos are part of the description.
A fun and unusual piece of Canadian studio pottery with great collector appeal.
Priced accordingly considering the small imperfection, artist signed
