Art Pottery Dual-Chamber Vase by Mary E. Lauer

Vintage 1973 Studio Art Pottery Dual-Chamber Vase by Mary E. Lauer Vintage 1973 Mid-Century Studio Art Pottery Vase - Unique Dual Chamber / Slip-Draped Lace Texture - Signed MEL '73 Item Description: Up for auction is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind piece of 1970s American studio art pottery. Hand-crafted by local artisan Mary E. Lauer, this vessel showcases exceptional technical mastery and experimental mid-century construction. The piece features a striking "vessel-within-a-vessel" architectural design, pairing a smooth, pristine upper cylinder with a heavily textured, draped lower body. The intricate relief detailing was achieved using a classic 1970s studio technique where real patterned fabric and lace were dipped in porcelain slip and wrapped around the clay. During firing, the fabric burned away, leaving behind a flawless, permanent ceramic replica of the lace borders, swirling baroque scrolls, and organic folds. An intentional vertical seam splits the front of the outer shroud, allowing the nested inner container to peek through. This dual-chamber geometry makes it both a stunning sculptural display piece and a highly functional decorative vase. • Artist: Mary E. Lauer (Initialed "MEL") • Date of Creation: 1973 • Markings: Hand-incised cursive signature "Mary Lauer" on the unglazed base. Features the original artist catalog sticker on the side reading "#3 MEL '73". • Dimensions: 7 inches (Height) x 4.5 inches (Width) • Color/Glaze: High-gloss white glaze with a beautifully subtle crackle finish on the smooth upper half; raw, scalloped unglazed foot ring. • Condition: Excellent vintage condition.
