1970s Hand-Hooked Shag Rug | 50” x 70”

An extraordinary hand-hooked wool rug dating to the 1970s, featuring a wildly saturated palette of crimson, raspberry, magenta, blush pink, peach, and electric yellow. This piece came from an estate where it had been handmade by a member of the family, giving it a character and individuality that simply doesn't exist in contemporary production rugs. The abstract design feels remarkably current despite being over 50 years old—bold, graphic, playful, and completely unapologetic in its use of colour. The pile is thick, plush, and highly textural, Amazing in a loft, living room, studio, nursery, or design-forward interior. Large-scale hand-hooked examples with this level of colour and graphic impact are becoming increasingly difficult to find. As is common with handmade rugs, the perimeter isn't perfectly machine-straight and there are slight variations in shape that speak to its handmade construction rather than detract from it.
