Vintage copper and oak wood relief repousse table lamp by the renowned artist Albert Gilles.
Signed by the artist on the side of the embossed depiction of a bird on a branch amongst an intricate display of plant motifs.
Two beautiful embossed copper sides - the front depicts a bird on a branch and on the back is an embossed text of a poem titled โLe Chene Et Le Rouseau.โ
Albert Gilles (1895-1979) was born in France and emigrated to Canada, Quebec City in 1927. His aunt introduced him to the art of repousse at an early age which then became a passion for him. Albert did work in the States for some time and ultimately returned to Quebec where he established himself as a religious artist. Through the years Albert had many commissions with one being with Pope Pius XII. Albert decorated more than thirty places of worship in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, the United States and Jamaica.
Good condition. Patina. Works wonderfully. Any wear commensurates with the age. The burlap lamp shade is not original to the lamp.
Each copper repousse is approximately 5โ wide and 6โ long.
The lamp is approximately 7โ wide across the base and 22โ tall.
