It is a precise replica of a 1900 Vienna design that was later looted by the Nazis. The piece is easily recognized by its delicate blue-and-white floral motifs and six heart-shaped wells surrounding a central Star of David. Historical and Design Details: Origin: The original 1900 artifact belonged to a Prague family. It gained global prominence when it toured with the world-famous Smithsonian Institution exhibition of Judaica in 1983. Replication: To commemorate "The Precious Legacy" exhibition, Villeroy & Boch produced an exclusive limited edition of 500 pieces in Luxembourg. Aesthetics: The plate is known for its delicate birds and blossoms, featuring six distinctly shaped recesses designed to hold the traditional Passover ceremonial foods. Availability: Because it was a limited run, this collector's piece is rarely found in standard retail. When they do surface, they are primarily available on collector and resale markets.. To learn more about the plate's historical journey, you can read the Skirball Cincinnati collection archives.
