Myles Edgars Haida Argillite Raven Pendant Sterling Silver

Authentic Haida Gwaii Argillite Artwork by Master Carver Myles Edgars. This is a very rare statement piece most of his work fall into the 1.5-2.5” category, this one is significantly larger at 3.5” x 2.2”. The necklace is Italy .925 silver and is 29.5” long and weights 22g without the pendant which weights 11g with the raven weighing 41g. It is a truly stunning piece with the shell inlaid eyes that seem to follow you. It’s incredible and super solid. Substantial statement necklace featuring a hand-carved authentic Haida Argillite Raven pendant by the late, highly respected Haida master artist Myles Edgars (1958–2021) from Masset, Haida Gwaii. Because argillite is a rare black slate found exclusively in Haida Gwaii and can legally only be harvested and carved by Haida tribal members, original pieces by late masters like Myles are highly collectible and finite. This exquisite piece is beautifully preserved and features intricate traditional formline design work accented by two brilliant, iridescent abalone shell inlays (marking the eye and wing). The back of the raven is hand-inscribed by the artist: "HAIDA Raven" and "MYLES EDGARS". The argillite carving is seamlessly integrated into a striking, custom-crafted multi-colored beaded medallion with a textured sterling silver center cap, suspended from a long sterling silver chain.
